Fiction Flashback: The Shining

Start your week of with some older titles that deserve a second look

The Shining

by Stephen King

As I get older, I have a renewed appreciation for early days, pre-cocaine Stephen King.

I think this is one of his more misunderstood novels.  Sure, it’s a scary book about a haunted house.  But it’s also a tragic novel about a wealthy family who lost everything.  And the one man who had no choice but to keep them all together.

Wait, that’s Arrested Development.  Anyway, it’s a great book and a tragic story.  Definitely worth a second look.

The Shining

What’s it about?

Terrible events occur at an isolated hotel in the off season, when a small boy with psychic powers struggles to hold his own against the forces of evil that are driving his father insane.
